I LOVE this time of year....lol the holidays makes me....well giddy. I get particularly festive when I hear (and sing) Christmas carols. SO since these "notes to myself" are about me. I wanted to write about some of my favorite Christmas songs.
I couldn't pick just one. So I decided to create this series based on one of my favorite carols....So I have limited myself to a total of TWELVE. As a kid I always wondered when were "The Twelve Days of Christmas," I mean December 25th was on the calendar only once. I was jealous of this "hooker" in the song who was getting presents for twelve straight days and I wanted my share too. With no clear answer, I decided the 12 days, were just the days leading up to December 25th. That said, I'm picking a song a day for the next 12 days to share their value and importance to me with you. The order isn't necessarily an indication as one being more loved than the others, but they aren't presented here randomly either.
So on the First day of Christmas I am presenting a song that I think is special because it's the most unique (like me - lol.) This song is, "My Favorite Things." It's not a traditional "Christmas" song but it is always on the airwaves at this time of year and only at this time. So it was the perfect choice to start this series and serve as a transition. I have not seen "The Sound of Music" which is where this song comes from, but as far as I can tell this first clip is actually from the movie as Julie Andrews sings it.
Although this next video is the same song and I really want to limit these notes to just one clip, when I found this one I couldn't resist snatching it up and sharing it.
This is a recording of one of the world's leading opera soprano voices, Kathleen Battle and one a Jazz's leading pioneer and male vocalist, Al Jerreau.
Because this song isn't exclusively a Christmas carol but just became one be default over the years. I think it serves us all as a reminder to appreciate the things that make you feel good both at the holidays and all year long. Rather you like a box of See's Candy, brown paper wrapped packages tied up with string, or cooking a delicious meal for the friends and family you love....take time to do and enjoy your favorite things.
Sincerely,
Pharaoh
PS My favorite versions of this song is done by the Supremes.

You couldn't find a clip of the Supreme's singing it??
I love the holidays too, but I have to admit that this year, I've yet to get bitten by the Christmas spirit. UGH! HELP ME SOMEBODY!
You know this year just hasn't been the year for me at all and in any way, shape, or form. Last year even though I had to put up with my two-faced uncle, the christmas spirit is strong. Though I hate to admit it, it doesn't feel like Christmas to me unless I'm getting gifts. I been too stressed out with school lately to feel any kind of spirit, and my family and I are in strained relations so I have no one to feel the "spirit" with.
Hmmm... perhaps that's why I don't feel it.
Soul..I was upset and shocked that I couldn't find a clip on Youtube of the Supremes....I had even found a clip of Anita Baker Doing it but no Supremes.
And both Xivinrah and Soul I'm here to help inject yall with some spirit lol atleast with the next 12 days.
I suggest you guys also try putting out some Christmas spirit....kinda like the idea you Reap what you sow. Start wearing a Santa hat..people will know you got the spirit and will start sharing theirs with you!
GREAT song selection
