Woooo ME!

Self,

I'm going to be short.

My New York suitor is coming to town this weekend.

I'm nervous and excited. There's a lot on my mind, but I don't have the words.

We've talked a lot. There's still a lot more to discuss.

I'm sure we will enjoy ourselves.

Who knows.

Sinerely,

WASHINGTON, DC

Self,

I really don't know where to begin...or how much to tell.

Since the focus of my trip was our NEW President I have to start there.

My friend, DCF (DC for where he lives F for friend - as in who he is to me) arranged for us to be at a private function for the inauguration. It was only about 85-100 people that attended. It was INSIDE. Catered with a host wine/champagne bar too. lol In comparison to being out in the cold like I had initially anticipated...this was bliss! =)

We watched the ceremony on TV, just as I would had I stayed home in California, but I wouldn't have had the conversations with the other party attendees. I met the woman who heads the television broadcasting department at Howard University. A mother and her son who couldn't put down his PSP, but was still aware of the moment. Although this picture suggest that I was in person contact with President Obama, I have to confess that I was only within 50 feet of him as his motorcade passed the building this party was located. (But even that felt almost magical.) Because of our proximity to the motorcade we needed advance security clearance. That made it really hard to connect with any of the other folks who I knew were in the city for the event. It would have been really cool if we all could have came together at some point. The only one who MIGHT have been able to circumvent security is my girl in Atlanta, Ms Independent (name cause her birthday is July 4th) since she works for the Secret Service, so she may have just flashed her badge. (Didn't think about it at the time.) Otherwise if you weren't wearing this placard, the guards were not letting you in the building. Anyway after the presidential motorcade passed our location, we bounced. We were out walking in the crowd....I can easily see how they estimate that there were over 2 million people in the city. The streets were PACKED. It was all pedestrians because all other traffic was diverted elsewhere. There were no taxis for us to chase down. DCF decided that there was no way we were going to be able to get on the Metro, and later after hearing that 1.1 million people rode Metro that day, I understood why he made that decision.

So we walked to one of his local hang out spot and had a couple drinks to get out the cold. It was a hike and it was cold...but I am a trooper. While we were there I get a call from Schehimazade, talking about wanting to meet us. So we did had a bite to eat before DCF and I went to the second event to which he had arranged tickets for us. We all were getting along pretty well, which also included the bartender/server with whom DCF was kind of flirting. Before DCF and I left to go to the inaugural party, he had invited Schehimazade to join us. Initially Schehimazade refused stating that we would rather go to a club across town to try to play Bid Whist, so we left him there with the bartender who it turns out tried to get him drunk. However Schehimazade did join us at the party later.

This inaugural party was primarily a gay event. It wasn't black tie but it was business attire and most came looking sharp. Some even wore tuxedos anyway. It was nice being in a room of professional gay black men. LOL I'm sure as the night got later and more of the free Cosmopolitian and Rum punch flowed it became more of a typical gay event where they tried to see who they could take home....but until that point (which we circumvented by ducking out ot go back to the bar from earlier) it was a bit on the lines of inspirational.

DCF and I simply just hung out mostly after that night. We visited his hang out spot a few more times, we also went to see "Slumdog Millionaire." (I had just heard about it from my NYC suitor, so he was part of the reason I went to see it and I was very pleased with the reccommendation.)

My last day in DC I had a little "me" time and went to the National Mall to a couple of the art galleries. I went to the National Gallery and particularly the contemporary/modern art building. That is where I saw this. It's is called La Condition Humaine by Rene Magritte of Belgium. I just thought it was so cool. If you can't quite tell it is a painting of painting that is in the same perspective of the scene outside the window. This is actually a postcard I scaned, so it doesn't quite give the same effect as seeing it in person. Also in the in teh same building the gallery had a special exhibit on Pompeii and the Roman villas. I enjoyed this as well considering how much I appreciate the architecture and art of antiquity. That said this next picture isn't quite that old. This is a painting from the 1700's of an artist's vision of what the volcanic eruption that destroyed Pompeii may have appeared. It is called Vesuvius from Portici by a British artist named Joseph Wright. Again this is a postcard and doesn't give the full effect because there are spots in the painting that catch the light just right and seem like glittering stars. After I wandered through that gallery I went down the road to The Gallery of African Art and The Gallery of Asian Art which are connected underground. The Gallery of African art had a lot of masks and some jewelry. The Asian gallery had ceramics, jewelry, funiture, statues and a lot more things to view. Actually I really think that it is bigger than the Gallery of African Art (lol it's racial yall,) despite the fact that they seem to have been constructed to have similar appearances. Anyway one thing that caught my eye in the African Art gallery was this tribute to President Obama. I believe that this is by an artist in Nigeria, however I can't say for certain. This was one of two pieces celebrating the president that were on display. The other I have a picute of but like this one I took it using my cell phone and it is too dark to see. I may be wrong abou it only being two pieces there may have been a third, but again I'm not sure.

Well that was my Inauguration/DC experience. I'm sure there are many others out there that you can read/hear about. But I wanted to share mine and I hope you enjoyed it.

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

My Heart's Heavy & My Head Hangs Low

Self,

First let me say that I do not know this family. Although at this point I may be able to figure out a few access points through the "six degrees of separation" network, but that's not what's important.

The tragedy of this family is that every person in this picture is no longer alive! Worse yet, is that their death was an inside job - murder suicide by the husband/father. I had heard about this family late last night and it made be feel bad. Now that I've seen this photo, it's made me feel even more sad. WHAT A BEAUTIFUL FAMILY! The loss of them just hurt....I don't know exactly why...like I said I don't know them, but I still feel the need to mourn for them.

From what the reports say, both the husband and wife were fired from their jobs at Kaiser. Yes fired, not layed off. The word is that they were terminated because they (allegedly) commited fraud in order to obtain childcare assistance. NOW let's be real, in an effort to streamline things Kaiser may have just used this situation to their advantage, and saying this doesn't absolve the couple of their guilt if they did do it. Not my concern.

My concern is:

Where was his FAITH?

Where was his HOPE?

Where was his LOVE?

Where was his JOY?

Where was his SPIRIT?

I know that those are all heavy words and this is a time that I wish there was a word to encompass all of them because individually each word does not do justice to the true sentiments of what I'm thinking and feeling.

I know that we as a people have more resources and options and hell plain out more money than any previous generation in this country's history. No matter how hard/desperate things got, I feel people were more willing to fight/struggle and see themselves and their families through their problems and didn't take that route. (I know there were some parent who would rather see their children dead then see them live as slaves and maybe that mentality is part of the source of this tragedy.) Isn't that WHY we are a generation so fortunate to be where we are. Hell isn't that part of the celebration behind our new President. (NO, I Don't think he is superman, but isn't it a testimonial to those struggling achievements!?)

I won't go on talking about it. Just wanted to get some of its weight off my chest.

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

A Loss in the Empire

Self,
I have sad news to deliver. Today my empire has suffered - and it pains me. Alas, it seems that I have failed someone as a ruler. The Empire has lost a loyal subject - DAMMIT my follower count has dropped...by one =)

I'm sorry the person decided to stop following, but they must do what they gotta do.

I'm at work, at the secondary office all by myself, except the truck drivers who come to discharge their loads. So I may have a lot of time on my hands today, which is good cause it should let me prepare a "note" about my DC trip.

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

January 24, 2009

Self,

I am 32 as of this day! I flew home from DC, did some shopping for an impromptu birthday movie night. There was four of us and we watched "Babylon AD"..mostly for it's star Vin Diesel -the half naked scene of him was basically worth it - and also "Jackie's Back" staring Jenifer Lewis. I enjoyed myself greatly, so did my fellow celebrants.

I'll admit I was kind of disappointed that certain people didn't show up. Granted it was kind of last minute so I'm not too upset about it either. However, there's two that irks me most. 1 is a long time friend/brother who didn't even take the time to say he wasn't going to attend (for that matter even acknowledge that he got the invite - but so be it.)

The other is a friend who has told me a bold face lie saying I never invite him to do anything at my house when I do things with my friends. This is probably about the fourth or fifth time I invited him to any "party" I've hosted since I've moved in to my current apartment two years ago. And he has not attended any, and it is at least the second invite he got since he made that statement. (The other was the brunch I hosted last month around Christmas.) His reason for not attending movie-night was the sex session he was suppose to have but was stood-up, along with not wanting to drive. I can't be too upset about him wanting to get a little nookie - truth is I would have liked some too - so I told him I didn't want my birthday standing in the way of him getting some, but after he knew the dude wasn't coming he could have tried to come hang out then. I'll probably be made out to be the bad guy in this....somehow I usually am.

Anyway on to Happier topics. I got plenty of wonderful birthday wishes today. They are all near and dear to my heart, but here's a couple that stood out;
This first one was a text that read.
"I wish you many financially abundant, body shaking sex, good food eating, divine alcohol drinking, and world traveling [filled] birthdays to come."

I just love it...it encompasses all the elements of a grown and sexy individual such as myself and sentiments that can be carried all year long! Sadly this birthday missed the body shaking sex (as has many others in the past,) but since part of my birthday was spent in Washington DC, I'll claim it as part of that traveling clause even though I was still on domestic soil! lol.

Then there's the text message from the potential suitor who did the math to send me a birthday message from California to me in DC timing its arrival at midnight Eastern Standard Time, in order to be the FIRST birthday greeting of the day.

This last birthday wish comes from another potential suitor who I have not yet met face to face. We were suppose to meet when I was in New York (where he lives,) but it didn't happen. We've been exchanging text messages and phone calls pretty regularly. He called me while I was in DC from NYC, to wish me a happy birthday shortly after midnight. Throughout the day there were several phone calls to each other. All of which he referenced my birthday including taking my call at 6am while I was sitting in Dulles airport waiting for my flight back to California. He was half sleep, but he tried to keep me company for a while. All his calls put a smile on my face and added more cheer to my day including his call at 11:59pm with the intent of being the last voice I heard on my birthday wishing me a happy one. TOO SWEET! *SIGH* Yes, I'm finding myself liking the sound of his voice and the conversations we have. Earlier in the evening he said he wanted to be the last voice I heard of the day, and for all intent and purposes he succeeded. I had forgot that he said it so I was pleasantly surprised when I received the call, so 20 points for the follow through. Let's see if he follows through on the birthday "gifts" I requested of him nearly a week ago. (No, I didn't request anything materialistic that would make him spend money, just a couple things I asked him to do. I had to throw that in there so I wouldn't end too sappy. lol!)

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

Back in the Day

Self,

I might be called a biter for this, but hell a good idea should be used often! And1grad post a series on his blog "Flashback Friday's" which he finds old clips of music videos he was feeling back in the day. I'm sure other bloggers have done the same thing.....and well this is my turn. So if I'm a biter...too bad.

I LOVE Missy Elliot. I'm sure there's folks that don't feel she's a hip-hop artist, cause she isn't "Gangsta," but give me style and creativity over thug ANY DAY! Her videos were ALWAYS major. It wasn't just her standing on a corner in a oversized t-shirt and jeans with a 40 ounce with a grill on her teeth, staring into the camera or watching a girl wearing a bikini dancing on a stripper pole! I mean there are some eye catching shots!

And While we on Missy, what about the rest of hew Crew...Timberland and Magoo. I know Timberland is back (which I am ecstatic about. but this was one of my favorites.

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

PS This was a post I was working on before I went to DC, so I wanted to finish it before I wrote about that experience. Also was wanted time to get all the pictures together.

NYC Movies

Self,

Well As I've said I was in New York for almost a week. Aside from bringing the new year there, I found several activities to entertain myself while I was there. One of which was going to see a couple movies.

Well Before I left Cali Schehimazade and I agreed that we would wait to see Seven Pounds together when I got to New York as oppose to seeing it individually and just talking about it like we do with most movies.

Our resolve to see it was increased New Year's eve when both Caliyorker and Sexyback* both reccommended it as we were eating the shrimp Schehimazade fried for all of us as our first bite to eat of the New Year at 4am. In short I loved it. It is well crafted in a way that kind of keeps you in suspence as to what's going to happen next. Will gave an excelent performance as did Rosario Dawson, who by the way is is beautiful. I mean in the scenes where she wasn't wearing any make-up or she was made-up to look ill, her natural beauty just shines through! The proplem with the movie is that the way the story unveils itself, makes it hard to tell someone about it without giving the story away. SO that's all I'm going to say.

Now even though I talked about Seven Pounds first, the first movie I saw while I was there was The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. We went late New Year's day. Caliyorker had stayed at the house even after everyone else had left and ended up spending the whole day with us. Caliyorker, Schehimazade, Hueyleen and myself went to like a 11pm showing in Brooklyn. This was another great movie. Another example of well crafted storytelling. Even though the unique circumstances of Brad Pitt's character is impossible, you easily accepted because you are ethralled and engaged with all the other aspects of the film. Both of these films will be added to my personal collection when they become available.

LOL You know, sinice I'm on the topic of movies I've seen while I was in New York, there's two more I'm going to add here really quick. These were DVDs that I had never seen and Hueyleen and Schehimazade were quick to point out that I slept on them. The movies were "The Skeleton Key" and "The Others" staring Nicole Kidman. Both of these films were advertised as horror movies or atleast scary. I'm not the horror movie type so I had no interest in seeing them when they were premired. How-be-ever* after sitting and watching them, they were very good. Not to sound repetitive but again both of these films were excellent storytelling. LOL I can't go into what they are about because it will give the story away...but if you get a chance watch them.

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

*These names were originally used in "NYE ini NYC Update" on 1/13/09.
*Schehimazade told a story about some guy he had over who was trying to act snootty, but then actually opened his mouth to say that as a part of his aires...too funny.

Exploring Strange New Worlds

Self,
You don't have to be a "Trekkie" to know the opening monologue from the the TV show "Star Trek"

Space - the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. It's mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.

Well oddly enough I feel like I'm Captain of the Enterprise right now when it comes to dating. While I've been "galavanting" around the country a friend of mine has been house-sitting for me. (mainly to feed my fish.) Well there been some overlap in that he would stay at my place even when I was back in town. No we aren't dating or anything. But we have talked about my my lack of options. He showed me a website that he have been using to connect with people...and it was one I had not heard of or used in the past........so I was willing to try it.

So I have sort of stumbled back into the online dating pool. It seems almost as strange of a world as those that the Enterprise would visit. I have already wrote about one experience. (For those who don't know it you should read about Mr. Aint-right in "Dating Crazies" on 1/11/09.) Don't get me wrong, I aint new to this so I have expected some of the games folks play. The madness of it to me is that I feel partially insane for subjecting myself to it.......again. Like getting stood up Monday night. I got a message from him saying that he left both his cell phone and laptop at work. Even if that's so, how does that prevent someone from SHOWING UP when he recieved (and confirmed) the address and directions from me via email. I mean is there some new technology that cell phones and laptops drive automobiles instead of people that I haven't heard about. We won't even go into my annoyance/frustration with the fact that even on the next day, he didn't pick up the phone to call (or even text) that he sorry for missing our date but sent me an email. He said he did that because his cell battery was dead. (No he hasn't explain how those missing items prevented his vehicle from functioning and him showing up.)

Then there's the brother on the DownLow I met. Well frankly I didn't know he was "DL" until after we met face to face and it came up in conversation, because if I did know, I might not have entertained the idea of meeting, - them boiz are drama. Case in point. After we met and talked for a few minutes, the topic of cooking came up and he gave me a business card for a catering company he has/runs as I was leaving. Later that evening, I look at the business card...and there's a different name on it than the one he told me. I ask him about the discrepancy - his response; "Don't trip...just feel good that I thought you were cool enough to give my info to....feel me." Lord have mercy, why he say that! I told him the problem there is that it makes the first impression of him as a liar, and then I'm suppose to feel honored to get something as simple as the truth. Am I wrong, or does that seem completely asinine to anyone else? By all means if it makes sense to you, please explain it to me. His justification was that 1 if I knew he was DL (which as I said, I didn't, but still) I shouldn't have expected his real name in the first place and 2 had I asked earlier about the name he would have easily told me it was a fake name. (Who in their right mind second guesses a person's name upon introduction.) Honesty about lying, ain't that's a new one.
You know "I ain't complainin', I'm just tired," y'all.
(With that I had to find this clip. It's so cathargic to me. The artist is N'Dambi.)

Don't get me wrong, I think I have come across a few really good guys too. Sadly I think my biggest issue with the "good Guys" is that they are a little young....21, 23 even 19.... 27 isn't that much younger! I kind of put it out there in the universe that I would like a "Starting Five" for 2009. It's not that I want to be a whore (if I did why limit myself to five, right?) And before you start to say it, no I'm not trying to be a pimp either. I just feel that 5 is a round enough number that allows me some options rather than "putting all my eggs in one basket" and looking silly when they all get cracked. In the past, I've tried to only date/get to know one person at a time...and well still end up single. SO I'm trying something different...

(this is that cutie, Brandon, from the Miami area that I featured a month ago doing "If I Were A Boy." Here is India Arie's "I'm Ready for Love."

With that said, I had another date last night. This was with a 23 year old. It went well, for a first date. Dinner at Cheesecake Factory, and we saw the Adam Sandler movie "Bedtime Stories." He's a nice guy. Unfortunately, he's a little more fem for my tastes. I'm not an asshole and told him to buzz off, and we have had some fun conversations so......

Well I'm done.

Sincerely,

Pharaoh

my eclectic ear again

Self,

I stumbled across something and just wanted to share.
This first clip is from the movie "The Fifth Element" which I love mostly due to this sequence. The Diva turned it out here, and Leeloo was kicking ass. (Chris Tucker -not shown- was a MESS in the movie...too funny!) Anyway because I was reminded of this movie by the other clip I want to share I thought I would use this to set the stage.

Now as I said I stumbled across this and the vocal technique...BLEW me away....particularly loving what the Diva did in the movie. That said this bitch is a TRUE DIVA... and I mean in the original definition of the word, not the "female hustler" mess. LISTEN!

LOL I know you are through with me...both for having shared that with you and for having multiple clips in my 'notes," but yes I got one more for you. This kid sounds nearly as amazing as the professional singer in the clip above.

lol I know I wonder what he will sound like when puberty kicks in and his testicles drop! LMAO!

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

NYE in NYC Update!

SELF,

Well I have returned to Los Angeles, after my trip to the "Big Apple." I had a blast.

This is a highlight recap.... of New Year's Eve/Day.

So I arrived in JFK at about 6pm local time. I manage to take the subway from the airport to my brother's, Schehimazade, place in Brooklyn. Standing on the train platform was COLD AS HELL. (this is an above ground station) As I was riding the airport tram, I saw snow on cars and the ground. This was cool for me cause we don't get that up-close and personal with snow in Los Angeles (unless in the mountains.)

I climb the freaking 4 flights to Schehimazade's condo....(the building needs an elevator!) I was greeted by Schehimazade and his roommate, LOL I'm going to call her Hueyleen due to a similar hairstyle like Huey on "The Boondocks," (which we happen to watch a few episodes of that night.)
Hueyleen was pulling some chicken wings out the oven. On the stove was a dish of macaroni and cheese and a dish of sweet potatoe casserole with marshmellows on top waiting their turn to get in the oven.

As Hueyleen put Mac and potatoes in the oven, she was trying to figure out what kind of sauce to put on the wings. Well I'm starving from the flight so I ask for a taste, and she lets me.

I bite in and it's good...and it's not just cause I was hungry.
Hueyleen tried to stop me from eating it cause she had second thoughts about her culinary skills. When I told her how good it was and that she didn't need a sauce, she said, "since your family THROWS D
O
W
N, If you say it's good it must be, so I'll leave them alone." (She was in LA for Thanksgiving one year working and she spent the holiday with me and my family, so she knows lol.)

Here she is in the kitchen, it was suppose to be a candid shot, but she was well aware of the camera's presence and posed for it!

Guests start to arrive. We eat, we drink, we laugh, we play Taboo, and of course we toast in the new year. The party went all night...like til 11am! There were folks who showed up at 5am. There were some who left then came back later. Our first bite to eat of the New Year was shrimp that Schehimazade fried at like 6 or 7am. LOL all that said, it was still a really low-key event.

Here are a few pics I took. Hueyleen is suppose to email me the pics she took...they'll be in a later post.

So we have here, Schehimazade in the background, Hueyleen taking a picture with her camera, and He's-Str8-Sadly, named thusly because sadly he is straight. AINT HE SEXY THOUGH! His wife and I think sister-in-law were also in attendance.

This is Mr. Six-No trump...name thus cause when we play Bid Whist he is quick to call that bid. Did I mention that I can't STAND him sometimes when he does that....particularly when he does it and wins! LOL love him otherwise.

The rest are just more candid shots. Enjoy. The two fair-skin bald guys I think are dating or are a couple. (I SO would be exicted to be invited into their bed! LOL.) The guy in the white is a friend of Schehimazade, I'm calling Opposite because his first and middle name are excatly opposite of Schehimazade's.

Unfortunately I don't have pics of some of the other guest, I was hoping Hueyleen would have sent me her pictures by now but she hasn't yet. =(

Part of the later crew to arrive that hung out until the end are of course folks of whom I don't have pictures. Just to quickly list them: Caliyorker (a friend of mine who recently moved to NYC from Cali), Sexyback (another Whist player who when I met him had a goal to bring sexy back like Justin Timberlake, which he did..but really didn't have far to go to do it in the first place.) Flirtfriend (a hottie who I periodically flirts with, harmlessly.) Lastly the two Nicks that were dubbed Wicked Nick and Saint Nick, they came with Flirtfriend. Wicked Nick was just that....lol the things that came out of his mouth. Saint Nick I thought was very sexy and after some mutual flirting I was so disappointed to hear that he was in a relationship. He and his lover were having problems which is why they weren't together for the holiday.

More Later.

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

The Host With The Most

Self,

I know I had mentioned it, I hosted a brunch for some friends back on December 21. It was a short notice event. I enjoyed myself tremendously.
So what had happen was. A couple years ago, Prince EsQuire and I started a book club among a few of our friends. Our first book was Love by Toni Morrison. The significance of that is that one of the character's name was Heed the Night (Something). Well by default that also became the name of the bookclub. "Heed Da Nite" only lasted about a year before everyone's schedules became to complicated and conflicting....oh yeah and Prince Esquire moved to Miami.

Well that doesn't mean that we don't still enjoy socializing and the comraderie. Well we needed a reason to come together one year during the holiday season, so even after the club disbanded "Heed Da Nite" had a special holiday meeting in which the club read "How the Grinch Stole Christmas." ( a book club must have a book to read, right...but nothing too heavy lol.)
IT WAS HILARIOUS. We made it real easy for folks, you didn't have to have read the book before attending the meeting because we passed the book around and we took turn reading a page to the group. Some just read it straight. Some decided to give individual voices to the characters. GOOD TIMES!

Well base on a suggestion from one of the other former members of "Heed Da Nite." I called an emergency brunch session. The book of choice was "The Night Before Christmas!"

The menu consisted of; bacon, sausage quiche (I made five - 1 pictured below), one vegetable quiche for the sole vegetarian, grits, biscuits, a pecan pie, a royal family secret - Five Flavor Pound cake, and the highlight of the day mimosas, either with OJ or the special treat of Chambord.

(I'm not happy with Prince Esquire using my quiche on his blog before I could....but I like the shot!) This picture below is the full spread along with an honorary club member and little sister, Lady of Mt Olympus.

Well of course for the most part nobody was on time, including myself. The only exceptions were a friend who due to transportation issues came to stay the night before and helped set up. The other exception was this one cutie who I tempted into attending by offering a sample of the Five-Flavor Pound cake (which of course he had never had since it is a royal family secret and I had only met him the week before.) I've since learned of a rumor that he is seeing someone =( these things happen, but we haven't really talked directly about it so the rumor could be false but we'll see. Anyway as I said, everyone was late... including myself. The quiches were time consuming...I'm glad I did do some of the preparation work the night before. I don't think the first round of folks really arrived till almost 1pm, despite having told folks we were starting like 11am-ish (the -ish part meant I knew folks weren't going to be on time.) Well Cutie showed up at 11:30am and he thought he was late, but was the first to arrive. These were my two exceptions that were on time or early depending on how you look at it.

I had a really good time, so did everyone else. Lol even the straglers who showed up at about 3:30pm.... and they were still able to to fix plates. After the crowd thinned out, "Heed Da Nite" came together and read "The Night Before Christmas" ...lol and in true "Heed" fashion, we found something to argue about in the book (there's a standing arguement about who died in Love, there's also one for another book, The Lovely Bones.) We argued about who would read which sections of the book. Good times.

"Heed Da Nite" (L to R:) Prince Esquire, Compton Diva, my Mistress (who we decided to promote to my wife since my wife is now married with 2 children with another man,....long story lol) and me. These two ladies were also my two stragglers that were the last to arrive.

(L-R:)This is another of my brothers Chrisma (well that's what he named his car.) My Str8-husband, and either Ugly or Stupid (if I call her ugly she calls me stupid or vice versa. Ugly is also an original member of "Heed Da Nite."

Hey I have an idea, how about a bloggers bookclub. Someone select a book, the group agrees to read it by a specific date. And either the person who picked the book post a blog about it on that day and everyone else just leaves comments or all the readers post a blog about the book and everyone takes turn leaving comments on each others blogs......hmm anyone interested?

Sincerely,

Pharaoh

PS...lol hmm a blogger bookclub...ahh am I that much of a nerd...oh well I am who I am. (lol and what I am is like my mammy - kidding.)

Oh FYI the recipe for the quiche is being posted on http://esquireeats.blogspot.com/

Praise in the New Year!

Self,
I'm sure I have mentioned that I am not a religious man, but I do have faith in a power greater than myself. So to start out this new year I felt the need to honor and acknowledge that faith...in my own way. Music is always going to be important to me, so of course it is through music that I feel most comfortable praising my faith. These are a few songs that when I hear them lifts my spirit if I'm down, or just resonates the joy in me.

This first one says just gets the party started!

This one is just so FUNKY, It's HOT...love it.

I love this song but I wish I could have found a better clip because of the sound. But it makes me wanna move too.

I'm going to slow it down a bit here. The counter for this clip says it 8 minutes long, but it really isn't.

I feel good...don't you?

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

I wish I knew how to set up a playlist that would have played these songs back to back verses having to click on each one.

Dating Crazies!

Self,

There's a few things I want to write "notes" on here New York being one of them. However last night experience, trumps those at the moment.

I am a reasonable guy. I am very low-key and easy going. So last night, this guy who gave me his number before I left for New York, returned my text message by calling me. After about five minutes on the phone, (ok maybe it was 10 to be fair,) he was inviting me to have dinner later that evening. Well like I said I'm easy going and didn't see the harm in dinner, so I agreed.

At the designated time, I get a phone call.

"I'm here," says Aint-Right. (Named thus cause HE AINT RIGHT!)

"Ok. I'll be right down." I said.

"Actually, I'm looking for parking cause I really need to pee."

"Ah. Well give me a second to make sure it decent since I wasn't expecting company."

"You didn't prepare for me."

"I got MYSELF ready to go OUT. That was my main concern."

I go out and bring him upstairs. He goes in the bathroom, and we discuss where we are going to eat. Aint-right suggests a place that he loves but I never been, and is rather close in Silverlake. We went, the food was good, the conversation was fine. The bill comes, and Aint-right whips out his card. I offer to split the check. He counters by suggesting that I buy him a drink next door at the local watering hole. Although I'm thinking that it's time to bring the evening to an end, I agree.

We go next door. He orders vodka-cranberry, I get Jack and Ginger. The Bartender says he'll leave the tab open because there's a $20 minimum. We sit and talk for a bit. Part of the conversation includes comment about how strong the drinks were. We also played this video trivia game. I've heard of this bar by several people but I 've never been, it was ok nothing special but lol I did like the look of the bartender. We finish our drinks and somehow I missed Aint-right going to get us each another. As he sets the drinks on the table he said he owes me money. I told him don't worry about it. (It didn't occur to me that he charged the drinks to my tab, and that's why he was trying to give me money. In hindsight it didn't matter because our bar tab was about the same as dinner.)

Anyway, we drink, he's ran into people he knew (both here at the bar and the restaurant earlier) and we play more of the video trivia game. He gets up and says he's getting us another round of drinks. I stop him. I tell him that's its getting late the two I had were enough for me because I had to be at work at 6am and could not go with a hang over. He paused and sat back down.

Some time passes and out of Aint-right's mouth comes, "Do you have a license?"

I turned to look at him cause I knew something was up. "Yeah."

"Then here, I think you should drive," Aint-right says as he place his keys on the table in front of me. "My friends tell me I'm such a light weight. I'm so embarrassed"
Wait you are a light weight but you had a strong drink, got a second one, and just try to get a THIRD! YOU AIN'T RIGHT! "After you had two strong drinks, you going to tell me you are a light weight drinker."

"I know I'm embarrassed, but we get to your place and I have some water and 20-30 mins to rest I should be okay."

OK y'all I know what you thinking...and if you are anywhere near being my friend you will probaly be trying to warn me, that this guy is faking. He is trying to scheme his way into my bed. The Pharaoh ain't no fool. I saw that coming a mile away. My quandary was did I want to go through with it or not. I mean it is just a f*ck right? And frankly, I'm at a point where I have decided I'm kind of tired of living the life of a gooddy-two-shoes. But I his obvious game playing, and deceitful ways was well.....turning me off. What to do?

I excused myself to go to the bathroom as a means of thinking about it for a second. I decided to just see how this played out. SO I return, and find Ain't-right chatting with these other two guys. I grab my coat and he introduces me to the two guys. After the brief exchange of pleasantry, Aint-right says "I know your getting sleepy so we better go." I nod my head, we bid the couple farewell, and walked out.

We went back to my place, (yes I drove his car...remember he was "drunk.") We get inside, I gave him a glass of water. He sat on the sofa claiming to be sooo embarrassed. At this point he said he need to rest for like a hour and asked what time I got up for work. When I told him 6am, he claimed to feel really bad because he knew he was keeping me awake and that I should just go to bed. (Like I'm really going to just leave him on my sofa and go to sleep....as if I really expected him to stay on the sofa the whole night if I did leave him there.)

He streched out on the sofa for a while and I sat on the other end. Well next thing you know Aint-right started getting all touchy feelly. Laying his head on my shoulder, and in my lap wrapping his arm around me. Eventually he just sat in my lap and kissed me.

Well the physical impulse took over. I'll spare you the details, but I'll say this, he has decent oral skills. Afterwards he swore he needed to pass out and asked what time I got up for work. When I told him 6am. He had the nerve to say "That's great, I just sleep here and leave with you. Do you have an extra blanket and pillow?"

LIKE HELL YOU WILL.

I gave him a blanket and pillow out the closet. Changed my clothes and sat and read for like an hour. At about 12:30-12:45am I woke him up told him that I couldn't go to sleep with him in the house and that he had to leave. OUT the door he went.

Lesson learned here:
There's still crazy men trying to date!

Sincerely,
Pharaoh

Chef Pharaoh

Self,

I come from a "small" family. (I'll explain the quotations in a bit.) Small is so much that I'm one of only two children. Although both my of my parents are one of four children I don't have a bunch of cousins. Most of the "family togetherness" comes from my mother's side. Her parents moved out here from Tennessee (via Detroit) leaving behind their relatives to create a life of their own. Due to this fact my framework of family has extended by "leaps and bounds" by simply connecting with good folks and welcoming them into the fold.

Anyway, like I said my family is small. When we come together for holidays, like Mother's Day, Memorial Day, Father's Day and particularly major ones like Thanksgiving and Christmas, we instantly have a family reunion (yes we are that small - I told ya.) Well like this past Thanksgiving, work schedules and the such has prevented us from coming together on Christmas day. We instead came together in the spirit of the holiday in Arizona on Dec 27th.

The cool part about this ordel is that I was given the opportunity to prepare Christmas dinner for my parents, my brother and myself. Since the rest of the family were going to be in other places, we didn't need a huge feast.....to satisfy everyone's individual tastes, desires and wants. So to give my mom a break I offered to cook, with my brother as my assistant.

I made chicken-fried babyback ribs, broccolini with pecan brown butter sauce, yorkshire puddings and garlic mashed potatoes.

I have to say the ribs and the broccolini were the bomb. The mashed potatoes were great but since that was the "standard" item on the menu we already expected them to be good. The yorkshire puddings were....well I baked them too long so it made them a little hard on the edges, but had a good taste in the middle. At some point I will have to try them again.

Despite the fact that we were leaving town the day after Christmas, I still slightly over cooked. Luckily Schehimazade and his mother dropped by the house JUST as I was finishing cooking and they each had a small sample plate. (No it wasn't planned Schehimazade was trying to return a laptop after we had dinner but I was a little slow and communication lines got crossed.) LOL there was actually enough that we were able to share with the family members who made it early to Phoenix festivities.

Sadly I didn't take any pictures to share here. So I'm going to have to try everything again for you all. Also Prince Esquire has asked that I contribute to his second blog, Esquire-Eats, which "is a cookblog, for the use of all those who aspire to be better gentleman and ladies through cuisine, because true gents know how to cook, not only for sustenance or to impress a [date] but for pleasure and expression as well," I'm sure I'll post atleast the ribs there.

Sincerely,
Pharaoh
